Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or case number entered in a site search box is sent to the outside provider operating that tool. That provider processes the query and supplies any response. The operators of this resource do not keep a log of the terms entered in those boxes.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email message may be retained long enough to respond or handle the request. It is kept within the operating organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Like most web services, the servers receive technical visit information when a page is requested:
- The IP address assigned to your device
- Which browser you are using and its version
- Your device type and operating system
- The pages you visited and how long you stayed on each
- The site that sent you here, if any
- Timestamps for each page view
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They and analytics services help measure aggregate traffic, such as which pages receive visits and where visits end. Browser settings can block cookies, although that choice can change how some functions behave.
What We Do With This Data
- Operate, secure, and improve the resource
- Route a submitted query to the relevant partner tool
- Understand aggregate page use and performance
- Diagnose technical problems
- Support advertising that may be interest-based
No Court-Record Data on File
This resource does not host, compile, maintain, or sell a database of Swain County dockets or personal case information. It publishes general routing information for the clerk, the state trial courts, and North Carolina’s public court-search tools. It is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor information is not assembled into reports about other people.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes appearing on certain pages. Information submitted to a tool is subject to that provider’s own policy, retention practices, and sharing choices. Review the provider’s policy before entering information because those practices are outside this resource’s control.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Swain clerk, North Carolina Judicial Branch, other public resources, or third-party services. A different organization’s policy controls after a visitor leaves this resource, so its terms should be reviewed before personal information is shared.
Some advertising partners may conduct cross-site activity measurement or use it to tailor ads. Their systems, rather than this resource’s systems, perform that tracking.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Information can be disclosed to the following limited categories when necessary:
- Search partners that handle queries you run on our site
- Analytics services we use to track traffic and performance
- Ad networks that place ads on our pages
- Law enforcement or government bodies when a valid legal order requires it
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable security practices are used for information collected through the resource. Internet transmission and storage cannot be made risk-free, however, so absolute security cannot be promised.
Users Under 18
This resource is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. A message identifying information supplied by a minor can be sent to the operator so it can be addressed promptly.
Your Data Rights
North Carolina’s court-record access rules, including G.S. 7A-109 and G.S. 132-1, concern court-record custody and public inspection. They do not turn a visitor’s data into a public court record. Subject to applicable law, a visitor may ask to:
- Request a copy of information retained about that visitor
- Correct information that is inaccurate
- Ask for deletion where retention is not required
- Object to some forms of processing where law provides that option
Updates to This Policy
The policy may be revised as practices or legal requirements change. A revised version will be posted here with its effective date.
